You Can Help Finance an Independent SciFi Film - And You Should

Benjamin Capps is an actor and independent film producer who is looking for help in financing his next project.  He needs to raise about $10,000 by the end of April.  The film is called "Civet" and it's a "sci-fi horror movie", according to Capps.  He has already produced a 9-minute film called "It Grows Dark" (see below) that has earned him some attention, so it's not like I'm suggesting you give a complete unknown producer a shot.

A few years ago SF-Fandom threw its support behind Simon Horrocks, whose "Third Contact" independent film went on to gather rave reviews.  Simon was able to arrange independent financing for the production and distribution of the movie.  We'd like to help more indie film projects as much as possible, although we cannot allow ourselves to become an indiscriminate promoter of unvetted work.

We welcome new film-makers to share their projects in the SF-Fandom Fandom Forums (free registration is required and we moderate all new accounts, so please allow up to 3-4 days for approval).  For that matter, we also welcome authors who want to promote their books.  While we cannot review books we do occasionally publish interviews with authors, film-makers, and actors.  It depends on everyone's time and schedule, of course.

The best way to build interest in your projects is to engage with thoughtful communities.  Don't just drop a press release in a forum and move on.  You'll get almost zero response to that and many times people resent it.  You don't have to offer freebies to get people's attention.  Just give them some of your time even if it's only once or twice a week for two months.  They'll be more likely to remember you and support you if you treat them like people you want to associate with.
