December is the Season for Interviews and Books

'Tis the season for gift-giving and we have information about a couple of gifts we hope you will share with family, friends, and yourselves. First up is news about the recently published book Billy Bobble Makes a Magic Wand. The author, Robert Mellette, originally became known to fans of Xena: Warrior Princess in the 1990s as Xenastaff. He was was the admin for the official MCA/Universal Web Forum for the show.

Billy Bobble is, according to Mellette, targeted at the entire family. We were invited to interview him earlier this year as part of the pre-release promotional campaign for the book but schedules got in the way, excuses presented themselves, and we dropped the ball. Legend of the Seeker Fans to Sam Raimi: Movie Time, Bro

If you want to see a movie based on Legend of the Seeker now is a great time to tell Sam Raimi. Why? Because you have until November 10 for a chance to win prizes in the latest Save Our Seeker letter writing campaign. The campaign was inspired by series star Craig Horner (Richard Rahl), who told fans on Twitter earlier this year that they would have better luck asking Sam Raimi to produce a movie than to try to bring the show back to production.

Legend of the Seeker Fans Coming Out for Halloween and Beyond

Fans of the hit television show Legend of the Seeker (which was cancelled only because of the Tribune Company's bankruptcy in 2010) are still mobilizing to bring back the show in some form or another. The current objective is to persuade Sam Raimi to do a movie. If a movie is successful it can lead to other movies or new television productions, and the Internet has changed the way off-network programming is marketed. There is a lot of opportunity for a creative show when you demonstrate that an audience exists for that show.

Xenite.Org Updates and Expands old SciFi Movies Portal

Years ago Xenite.Org launched a SciFi Movies Portal on a subdomain in the hopes of creating a lot of content that would be of interest to fans as more fantasy/science fiction franchises were launched by the film industry. Unfortunately, we were still publishing the site via static HTML files and when we got up to about 20,000 pages it just became too much trouble to update everything. So we let the site slowly fade into the woodwork.

Tolkien Fandom Cruises to Begin in December 2014

Fans of J.R.R. Tolkien will set sail on the high seas beginning in December 2014 to celebrate their love of sailing, elves, and wizards. Ray Jelley has put together Trilo3y Voyages, a company organize fan tour groups for the high seas that just happen to be seaborne conventions. You'll enjoy everything from black tie dining to costume contests, movie screenings, and opportunities to meet and hobnob with Tolkien scholars and actors from the movies.

Fans Asking Sam Raimi to Make a "Legend of the Seeker" Movie

Legend of the Seeker was a syndicated television show that ran for two seasons in the US and overseas markets from 2008 to 2010. The show performed well in syndicated ratings despite crazy scheduling changes by local affiliates. Based on Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth novels, the show brought many new fans to Goodkind's books and also introduced television audiences around the world to Goodkind's imagination. Of course, TV shows are seldom like the books that inspire them but I really enjoyed LOTS and was saddened to learn it was being cancelled.

SF Fandom Loses a Founder and a Great Friend

I learned last night that Dixie Harrison, co-founder of SF-Fandom.com, had died of a heart attack yesterday while she was at home.

As many of SF-Fandom's long-time members know, Dixie was always there during a crisis whether it be a need to change hosting providers or to upgrade the forums at the most inconvenient of times.  Dixie always seemed to have a little extra time to help out when help seemed most unavailable.
