Xenite.Org Updates and Expands old SciFi Movies Portal

Years ago Xenite.Org launched a SciFi Movies Portal on a subdomain in the hopes of creating a lot of content that would be of interest to fans as more fantasy/science fiction franchises were launched by the film industry. Unfortunately, we were still publishing the site via static HTML files and when we got up to about 20,000 pages it just became too much trouble to update everything. So we let the site slowly fade into the woodwork.

However, when we relaunched the root Xenite.Org domain in 2011 we installed Wordpress as a multisite network that could support subdomains. This gave us the flexibility to create new subdomains on the fly and manage their content via Wordpress' built-in CMS. The most successful of these subdomains has been the Middle-earth Blog, which now has nearly 800 articles. By comparison the root host (which once had 50,000 pages of content) has between 100 and 200 articles and pages.

Having devoted most of our time over the past few years to keeping SF Fandom's science fiction forums running smoothly, we did not do much else with Xenite.Org. But this month we finally decided to start upgrading some of the old Websites in our network and Xenite.Org was moved to the top of our projects list.

Our first task was to rebuild the Huckleberry Wild site, because this is huckleberry season and it gets a lot of traffic every summer. The site is now mobile-friendly and we have updated some of the information (although that still needs more attention). We have another site, Huckleberry Biz, a blog that has published articles about huckleberry festivals, stores, and restaurants for the past couple of years. We'll leave that site alone and continue to update it for now. But Huckleberry Wild will eventually get some new content (probably recipes).

Our next task was a much larger project and in some ways is still not finished. That is upgrading our science fiction movies portal to use Wordpress. The site is now much improved, mobile-friendly, and includes a lot more content than previously. The new content includes many hours of videos including some full movies. We want fans to feel like they can just come and watch great content right there on Xenite.Org without all the clutter and distractions of the major video portals.

The movies portal features two new sections devoted to Marvel Movie franchises including the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and Guardians of the Galaxy. We'll get to the Spider-man movies eventually, and maybe some of the lesser Marvel films like Nicolas Cage's "Ghostrider" movies. The other new section is our Middle-earth Movies portal, which covers not only all six of the Peter Jackson movies but two major fan films as well. We'll be expanding this section as required in the future.

We're really excited to be restoring and updating old Xenite.Org content because we feel the site has languished for far too long. Sure, the Middle-earth blog is very popular but Xenite.Org made its mark on the Web by appealing to many different kinds of fans. We want to do that again and we think we can start back down that path now. We hope you'll come along on that journey of new discovery.
