Newfoundland's West Coast Convention opened its first year convention on October 24. Stunt Actor Paul Weston served as the convention's first guest of honor.
The Western Star carried a brief feature article about the convention.
Newfoundland SF fans may already be familiar with SciFi On The Rock, which is held every April. Here is hoping the two conventions build a rich, long-lasting fan tradition.

SciFi convention posts YouTube updates
I don't live anywhere near NewFoundland but if I did I'd probably be checking out SciFi On The Rock, the local SF convention there. I came across an interesting video they uploaded on September 10 that updates their attendees on what is happening with the convention.
I can't promise to promote every such video (I just don't have the time or resources) but I think this is a great idea. Every science fiction convention, large or small, should post these kinds of updates if they any media capability at all.
And if you want to help your local convention and have the means to create and upload videos, why not offer to work with them on a project like that?

Does it function as an informal online writers' workshop, as a support group, or a black hole of cat-vacuuming?

Members of SF&F fandom, are invited to take part in brainstorming ways to improve educational approaches for the future using Science Fiction and Fantasy themes as a jumping-off point.

Comparing Tolkein, Salvatore and other literary works with games such as Warhammer and Warcraft, this panel analyzes the origins and history of Fantasy's favorite barbarian horde.
