So you want to be in a scifi movie?

I don't really stay on top of film casting announcements because, frankly, I don't act and there are way too many movie projects in production.

Nonetheless, Backstage published a few interesting tidbits that I thought I would pass on.

"John Carter of Mars" begins filming in January 2010
Casting: Marcia Ross, Marcia Ross Casting, 500 S. Buena Vista, St. 210-D, Team Disney Bldg., Burbank, CA 91521.

Be prepared to travel to and live in Utah, I would guess (but I don't really know).

Other projects listed include:
"The A-Team"
Directed by Joe Carnahan. Casting: Tricia Wood, Aquila/Wood Casting, 1680 Vine St., Ste. 806, Hollywood, CA 90028. Shoots in late August in Canada.

"Footloose"
Written by Neil Meron. Directed by John Hartmere. Casting: Paramount Pictures Features Casting, Gail Levin, Andrew Brown, and Barbara McCarthy, 5555 Melrose Ave., Bob Hope Bldg., Room 206, Hollywood, CA 90038. Shoots in March 2010.

"MacGruber"
Written by Forte, John Solomon, and Jorma Taccone, who directs. Casting: Sheila Jaffe, 6330 San Vicente Blvd., 5th fl., Los Angeles, CA 900448. Shoots in mid-August.

And there are many more.

Rumor - Peter Jackson wants to direct 3rd Hobbit movie

MarketSaw is reporting that Peter Jackson is supposedly proposing that he direct a third "follow-on" movie after Guillermo del Toro's two Hobbit movies.

The purpose of the movie would be to bridge the stories between del Toro's "Hobbit" and Jackson's "The Lord of the Rings".

I wonder many LoTR actors could be persuaded to reprise their roles in the third "Hobbit".

This is starting to look like another Star Wars franchise (without the equivalent of an Expanded Universe in books, of course).

BTW -- I've been unable to keep up with the blogs for the past couple of weeks because I've been really busy at work and not feeling so well.

New film based on The Land That Time Forgot

C. Thomas Howell and Timothy Bottoms co-star in a new adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs' "The Land That Time Forgot", which opened this weekend (I think). I only just found out about the movie, so I guess there has been little to no advance publicity (or else the publicists did not know to reach out to ERB fans).

Here is the trailer.

You can read about Caspak, The Land That Time Forgot, in an old article on Xenite.Org. I'll get around to updating that section someday.

Please feel free to share your thoughts of the movie here on this blog or in our Land That Time Forgot discussion on SF-Fandom.

Legend of Zelda movie

One of our regulars, badlands, keep asking for a "Legend of Zelda" movie. There is, so far as I know, any plan to bring Zelda to the big screen. Many of you may know there was an April Fool's trailer published on YouTube in 2008.

I don't know why there should be such a movie, other than that the game appealed to millions of people of all ages. Surely that's no reason to make a movie, right? I mean, it's not like they would make a movie based on a video game at all, would they?

Anyway, if you do hear of a real movie project, please feel free to post something in our Zelda the Movie discussion. I am sure badlands and other fans would love to hear about it.
